WABA Youth Initiative is delighted to welcome Jerusalem Bereket our Youth Intern for 2014 from Florida, USA. She will be with us from May 26 till July 18, 2014. She is pursuing her Masters in Public Health (MPH) at the University of South Florida (USF) with concentration in Global Health Practice and a focus in Nutrition.
In Penang, Jerusalem will focus on several projects in the multi-faceted approach of promoting, protecting and supporting breastfeeding. Initially, she will focus on researching various effective public health campaigns to help begin the launching of the WABA video expected to be released soon. With the completion of the video, it is hoped that differing regions and organizations can use this as inspiration while also increasing awareness to the general population. Additionally, several social marketing tools will be used to help increase communication and revive the WABA Youth Initiative such as Facebook, Twitter, the Weebly blog, etc. Another project includes developing breastfeeding material to present at conferences and workshops. Finally, she will also be assisting in preparing an advocacy statement to the UNDPD youth group. During her final week, Jerusalem will compile documents of the various events and projects to present to the WABA team.

Jerusalem Bereket, BSH, CHES: Jerusalem, an Eritrean-American, is the current intern here at WABA. Pursuing her Masters in Public Health (MPH) at the University of South Florida (USF) with a concentration in Global Health Practice and a focus in Nutrition, she is required to complete a two-month international field experience here in Malaysia. She received her undergraduate health science degree from the University of North Florida (UNF) with a concentration in Community Health and minor in Health Education. Her previous internship led to employment with a worksite wellness organization called Health Designs. This company partners with employers to provide annual health screenings for their employees including cholesterol, glucose, bone density, and health coaching. Additionally, she is CHES (Certified Health Education Specialist), CPH (Certified in Public Health), and EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) certified. With the academic background, coupled with her certifications, she plans to work internationally in various global health matters.
